Hohner Meisterklasse
First introduced in 1982, the 14-hole Hohner Meisterklasse remains one of Hohner’s top-tier chromatic harmonicas. It features a sleek chrome-plated finish that’s smooth and comfortable—comparable to the excellent plating used on Suzuki’s SCX models. However, despite its strengths, the Meisterklasse has one major flaw: the comb. The stock comb is made from aluminum, which is highly prone to oxidation. Over time, this oxidization builds up and causes the comb surface to become uneven. This results in poor contact with the reed plates, leading to unwanted air leakage and diminished performance. To solve this, we offer the Meisterklasse with a custom comb upgrade. Our comb eliminates the oxidation problem entirely, providing a flat, airtight seal and significantly improving the instrument’s responsiveness and tone—similar to the upgrades we offer on the Chromonica 270.
Suzuki Sirius S-56s - A good alternative
While the Meisterklasse is certainly a strong performer, the Suzuki Sirius S-56 is, in many ways, a superior instrument. Both models use a straight (non-cross) slider system, but the Sirius stands out with a more ergonomic mouthpiece design, exceptional airtightness, and significantly higher-quality reeds. The result is smoother playing, better projection, and a more refined sound.
For players looking for a professional-level chromatic harmonica with modern reliability and comfort, the Sirius 56 is hard to beat.

Meisterklasse Basic
The Basic J.A. Custom Meisterklasse model is carefully set up for improved performance over the stock version. This level includes our Basic reed work—a solid upgrade from factory setup, though not as refined as our higher-tier models.
You’ll get better response, smoother slide mechanism, and noticeably improved tuning compared to stock. The playability across the range is much more balanced.

This is the pinnacle of what we offer for the Hohner Meisterklasse harmonica. Every detail is customized with precision and care, making this one of the finest custom chromatics available. Every single reed is removed and the reed plates are modified to extend reed life and increase the dynamic range. Holes are drilled and machine tapped for stainless steel reed screws, and all surfaces are flat-sanded to ensure maximum airtightness and precise fit. Each reed is carefully re-profiled, polished, and reattached using stainless steel screws for durability and optimal performance. The finest possible reed curvature is applied to give the best response, and the harmonica is then tuned to exacting standards for superb intonation. Finally, the reed plates undergo a treatment that prolongs reed life and helps maintain tuning stability over time.
