The reeds are also machined and tuned differently than on any other model. Each reed is manufactured flat in pitch and then tuned upward in pitch, eliminating the need to remove material from the back. This prevents tool marks in the area where reeds typically fail—greatly improving both reed strength and longevity.
The solid brass comb is silver-plated, giving the harmonica a weighty, responsive feel and enhancing resonance across the range. Combined with silver-plated brass cover plates, the tone is rich, powerful, and full-bodied. Because the comb is made from solid brass, the Fabulous is noticeably heavier than most chromatics—the 12-hole version weighs in at around 655g, and the 16-hole version about 760g. If you prefer a lighter instrument for improved comfort and easier handling, I offer an optional service to mill out and hollow the interior of the comb. This significantly reduces the weight while retaining the tonal benefits of the brass construction.

What sets the Fabulous Chromatic apart starts with its 1.3mm thick reed plates. Unlike most harmonicas, which use stamped reed plates (a process that often causes warping and compromises airtightness), the Fabulous is built using wire EDM (Electrical Discharge Machining)—a method typically reserved for high-precision industrial components. This ensures that every reed slot is perfectly flat, clean, and free of distortion, providing unmatched airtightness and response. It also features tapered valves, designed to reduce contact with the reed plate resulting in less valve sticking.
The slide mechanism on the Fabulous is incredibly airtight, thanks to a precision-fit metal back plate that allows for tighter mouthpiece tolerances. Each mouthpiece and slide assembly is individually matched at the factory, meaning the components are specifically adjusted to work together. Swapping parts from another Fabulous won’t deliver the same performance—every set is unique. The gold-plated mouthpiece adds a smooth, luxurious feel that’s immediately noticeable when playing. That said, it still benefits greatly from customization—simply because I can invest far more time into the fine details than the factory ever could.
The Suzuki Fabulous is available in both 12-hole and 16-hole versions. The 16-hole model features a rounded mouthpiece, round holes, and a cross (zig-zag) slider.

While the Fabulous isn’t made of silver, the Top of the Line custom version delivers much better performance at a third of the price of a stock Silver Concerto. It's an outstanding choice for serious players who want that level of response and tone without the high-end price tag.
While the Fabulous Chromatic already performs at a level far above most factory-built instruments, it also makes an ideal platform for customization. Because the raw tolerances are already so precise, upgrades like reed profiling, curvature adjustments, embossing, and advanced tuning can elevate this instrument to a truly elite level.

Fabulous Stock QC
This is the quality-controlled Suzuki Fabulous model. Harmonicas are mass-produced instruments, and due to limited time in factory production, they often leave the line with poorly gapped reeds, inconsistent tuning, and other issues that will affect playability.
Each of these harmonicas has been carefully checked and adjusted to correct the most common factory flaws. The result is an instrument that performs to the level we believe any stock harmonica should which makes it more enjoyable to play.

Fabulous Basic
The Basic J.A. Custom Fabulous model is a great introduction to our custom harmonica lineup. Each one is individually numbered and carefully set up for improved performance over the stock version. This level includes our Basic reed work—a solid upgrade from factory setup, though not as refined as our higher-tier models.
You’ll get better response, smoother bends, and noticeably improved tuning compared to stock. The playability across the range is more balanced.

Fabulous Advanced
The Advanced model takes everything from the Basic version and adds further refinements for serious players. You can now achieve stable overblows on holes 4, 5, 6, and 7. Bends play smoother, and the harmonica delivers a wider dynamic range.
Don’t be put off by the word "overblows"—it’s a common myth that overblow-capable harmonicas are fragile or can't handle aggressive playing. That’s not true here. These are built to be both expressive and durable.

This is the pinnacle of what we offer for the Suzuki Fabulous harmonica. Every detail is customized with precision and care, making this one of the finest custom diatonics available. Every single reed is removed and the reed plates are modified to extend reed life and increase the dynamic range. Holes are drilled and machine tapped for stainless steel reed screws, and all surfaces are flat-sanded to ensure maximum airtightness and precise fit. Each reed is carefully re-profiled, polished, and reattached using stainless steel screws for durability and optimal performance. The finest possible reed curvature is applied to give the best response, and the harmonica is then tuned to exacting standards for superb intonation. Finally, the reed plates undergo a treatment that prolongs reed life and helps maintain tuning stability over time. This combined with the Silver plated solid brass comb!?
