Hohner Rocket
The Hohner Rocket is a modern evolution of the iconic Special 20, which made history in the 1970s as the first harmonica to feature recessed reed plates. This design means the comb slightly protrudes beyond the reed plates, offering a smoother, more comfortable feel against the lips—something many players appreciate. However, this comfort comes with a minor trade-off: since the reeds sit a bit further inside the comb, the instrument becomes just slightly less responsive compared to non-recessed designs.
The Rocket improves on the Special 20 in several key areas. It features slightly larger holes, allowing more air to reach the reeds and resulting in greater volume and projection. Its redesigned cover plates provide improved ergonomics and are available with or without side vents, allowing you to tailor the tone to your preference. Closed cover plates produce a warmer, more mellow sound and offer a tighter seal when using a bullet-style microphone—ideal for amplified playing. Inside, it uses the same reeds and reed slots as found in the Golden Melody and Marine Band series.

Rocket Top of the line
The J.A. Custom Rocket Top of the line Harmonica has incredible response and tone. It features the most extensive and advanced reed work possible. Every reed responds to the same small air pressure and the tuning lasts much longer than on a stock harmonica. Players will be able to bend overbends up in pitch, regular bends responds to the smallest airpressure possible.
