IMPORTANT
Although these covers are heat treated with linseed oil and finished with an oil/wax solution the fact still stands, they are made from a living and moving material. We have totally submerged them in water for 3 hours, put them in extreme temperatures from -30 up to +50 degrees without the material moving more than 0,01mm. That being said, you still have to be careful and should treat them as any other wooden instrument such as violins, flutes, clarients, etc. If you are in an extremely dry place, put a moist rag or similar in the same case, not so it touches them but in the same case. Or if you are in an extremely humid place you need to try and keep them dry. And of course let them dry before you put them back into their case. Again this is the same thing as violin players do with their instruments when traveling, so don't be scared.
Finally wooden cover plates that are small, neat but still sturdy. Most wooden cover plates that have previously been available share the same problem, they are either very big on the outside resulting in a harmonica that feels too big and awkward to play. Or they are too small on the inside resulting in a very thin and sharp sound but also reeds hitting the inside of the covers. These cover plates measure 1,5mm in the thinnest parts, but due to the design they are still sturdy. Although, if you sit or pinch them too hard they will break, but that will also happen with many other instruments such as the violin. They are designed to give the harmonica a more mellow and focused sound, mainly due to a larger volume underneath the covers, the material being wood and also the lack of side vents. Players describe a louder more focused but at the same time mellower sound. They work with minimal reed "rattle" down to Low-D.
Our wooden cover plates are made from a variety of woods, the standard ones being Jatoba, Oak and Teak. Other types of wood are available on request. They are heat treated with a food safe linseed oil and then surface treated with Osmo hard wax oil which fulfils both the DIN EN 71.3 (suitable for children’s toys) and DIN 53160 (resistant to perspiration and saliva) and as such is safe for humans, animals and plants. To us this is extremely important. We believe everyone should be extremely careful with all different lacquers and paints being used on harmoncias these days.
